Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) is known to craft efficient and globally competitive students. Little did people know, it is not only the Iskos and Iskas’ brilliant minds that the university boasts but also the talent that each student possesses. Whether in sports or performing arts, our Sintang Paaralan is definitely a goldmine of talents that are at par with international standards. Singers and dancers may dominate the stage, but vocal groups also exist in the university. These choral orchestras bring out the inner melodies in PUPians as they serenade the crowd with their soulful harmonies.
But who are they exactly? Here are some vocal groups that every PUPian should know:
PUP Bagong Himig Serenata
Running for almost 48 years, the vocal group took part in shaping up the history of choral orchestra in the country. It is the first group to instill original choreography to their performance, making them the pioneering “dancing choral” in the Philippines. If western music have ‘Glee’ and ‘Pitch Perfect’, Sintang Paaralan has PUP Bagong Himig Serenata.
Their founder, Raffy Amaranto is also a name of significance in the industry. His talent earned recognition in local and international scene as he was awarded in Tokyo for his brilliant musicality. More than a group, the organization became a training ground where holistic wellness is promoted. Members are exposed not only in practicing their vocals but also in technical aspects of running an organization. PUP Bagong Himig Serenata takes pride in molding students that have the mastery of their craft and are ready to become future leaders of their community.
PUP COC Ensemble

It is impossible not to know PUP COC Ensemble if you’re a student from the College of Communication. With their moving harmony commanding everyone to listen, goosebumps will definitely capture every listener along with the hint of eargasm brought by their voices.
As COC’s own vocal group, one can usually hear them serenading the almost empty campus ground during the wee hours of the day, practicing. Or during official programs spearheaded by the college. Aside from being a choral group, PUP COC Ensemble also takes part in organizing the annual COC Idol.
